In response to terror: The EU also wants a backdoor in end-to-end encryption

After some Islamist madmen have spread terror in Europe, the EU wants to strike back. A planned resolution to encryption will primarily damage the data security of the decent citizens.
The same thing again and again: the idiocy follows the idiocy. And then the idiots really start. I have to admit that I am desperate, and therefore this post is quite subjective and opinion -charged and from a certain perspective also polemical.

So: In France, a brain -ample full post says that he would sanctify a god by cutting his head off a French teacher. Instead of condemning what it is – a murder and a violation of the bids of all religions, in particular against the fifth of the ten bids that the god of Jews, Christians and Muslims has announced in the form of a burning thorn bush – some of them have no less crazy follower of the same religion, the full post. There is another attack in France, in which the assassin not only demonstrates insanity but also incompetence by not doing his sacrifice to cut his head as desired. Shortly afterwards there is another attack, this time in Vienna.

And all of this because the love of God or. his holy prophet was mocked by a cartoonist? What the devil do the fools think of their God? That he is a total mimosa, neither capable of deciding for himself when he is insulted, nor to practice retribution? That he has created the world with all the good and bad and wonderful that he has been watching organic matter and from stones, bacteria, animals and finally humans, how many billions of people are born and die from stones, and finally, and in between, sin and swear and murder and rob – and then it should not endure this, patient and mild god Caricature makes one of his prophets, and the help of an idiotot who cuts his head to a teacher because he has spread the caricature? Real? How disrespectful you can actually be his own God?

In my opinion, Europe is no longer allowed to show any tolerance and must fully stand on the side of Macron, a god of the ten commandments, a religion of love and a commitment to clarify. All of these values are not negotiable. Demonstrations that solidarize with a murderer and protest against his victim and against freedom of expression should be banned; Associations that call them up should be treated as well as neo-Nazi groups; Middle East state leaders who do not call the murderer but President Macron insanely belong to boycotted by all means. Which of course does not mean that Europe should not try to treat immigrants with a Muslim faith respectfully, to respect their feelings and to increase their chances of life as far as possible.

But unfortunately Europe reacts – or. The EU – apparently on the idiocy with another idiocy: it flirts with a measure that does not harm the terrorists at all – but only the honest citizens. As the ORF reports, the EU Council of Ministers has made a resolution in a decision to prohibit or signal the end-to-end encryption in apps such as WhatsApp or signal. underdated by a mandatory backdoor.
This is based on a document of the German Council Presidency from 6. November back, which is available to the ORF. This reacts to the attacks of Vienna and France with “further steps against terrorism”, which are to be adopted in a video conference of the Interior and Justice Minister in early December. Apparently the Council has already coordinated the resolution, in the course of November it should go through other bodies and working groups.

According to the document, the EU is intended to ensure that “competent authorities for security and criminal justice, such as the police and prosecutors, carry out their legal skills, both online and offline.“This makes the more and more used end-to-end encryption (E2E) difficult because it encrypts messages so that only the recipient can decipher them. For the law enforcement officers, the “content of communication is practically impossible to make accessible.“Therefore, the EU and its authorities would like to work with the Tech companies in order to enforce the determination to be adopted that“ competent authorities have the opportunity to receive legal access to relevant data.”

In other words: the EU wants a backdoor. Such an idea is not a testimony of the intellectual acuity of the Council. It would somehow still be discussed if you actually sacrificed the data protection of the citizens to prevent terror – or crime because of my sake. But it is not that. In all likelihood, the backdoor does nothing, but only harms.
Terrorists are idiots, but not stupid in their business. If the signal or WhatsApp or telegram are no longer allowed to encrypt, use other apps or programs; This will always exist, and if you really have to hide something – mostly terrorists or criminals – you will continue to be able to. The technology has flowed out of the bottle, there is no way back. If you want to encrypt information strongly, you can, and if you try to fight against a technology that is already as widespread as cryptography, will not be successful, but only leave burned earth.

If the EU undermines the E2E encryption on WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram and so on by introducing a backdoor, this harms the honest, lawful citizens: First, it violates its right to data protection, also before the European authorities. Second, it endangers its data security enormously, since a backdoor can always be used by the evil in the event of a hack. And this in order to do nothing in the fight against terrorism.
In any case, the reference to the attacks in Austria and France only seems to be a cynical pretext. Because it seems to be a worldwide trend to keep E2e encryption as a problem. A few years ago, Australia had a corresponding law beforehand. The United States recently followed with an explanation in which, in addition to Australia, Great Britain, New Zealand, Canada and India was involved. In this explanation it was also read that the EU was planning and intended to. So the resolution was probably already planned and discussed with other powers. The attacks of the past few weeks have probably only given the right time.

This intensifies a global tendency to combat encryption. The “crypto war” goes into a new round. Cryptocurrencies are indirectly involved in it. So their users are often Cypherpunks and thus supporters of encryption. In addition, blockchains such as Ethereum, EOS, Bitcoin SV and others allow messages to transmit the end-to-end-encrypted form, as is also allowed for an app for the Lightning network. And finally there are also cryptocurrencies such as Monero or Zcash, which in fact allow an end-to-end-encrypted transmission of values. Like Bitcoin with the Lightning network or with coinjoin-like mixers. If the governments of the world do not allow messages to be encrypted at the end of the end-they will allow money to be transferred in this way?
